I spent labor day weekend at the Lyman’s lake house.

I’ve always loved going to the lake, not any lake in particular. I like lakes as opposed to beaches because lakes have always just felt more natural to me. Lakes feel homey; the smell of the water, the inevitable sunburn, and tubing with friends.

I’ve always been a lake girl, even when I was little.

I grew up in Virginia and a significant piece of my time there was spent at my aunt and uncle’s lake house. It was on Smith Mountain Lake, the water was always a gross, dirty, green color. I didn’t care how filthy that water was. But, my dads weren’t too keen on that. I did get conjunctivitis one time, but that time was one of my favorite lake trips ever.

I’ll be forever happy if I have three specific things: Diet Coke, a camera, and easy access to a lake.

Labor day weekend was constant entertainment:

from my knuckles getting destroyed, a tube exploding and Darwin and Lizzie continuing [trying] tubing and then the Lyman’s boat breaking down while they were on it-

to the late-night campfire conversation about things I hadn’t opened up about in ages, but also hearing new things I wasn’t even conscious of.

I loved Labor Day weekend and I can’t wait to go to the lake again.
