I’ve been at college for a little over a month now. I’m still happy with my decision to major in Communication Studies, with an added minor in Multimedia Journalism. I knew it wouldn’t feel right if I wasn’t following my heart. Journalism has always been there for me, and I didn’t want that to change along with everything else. I find most of my classes to be incredibly interesting and engaging.
I started referring to my dorm as “home” about two weeks in. I love my roommates and my friends. I remember being so scared I’d struggle to make friends and socialize. I was so worried I’d feel out of place here. But I like it here much more than I expected to.
I’ve started working. I’m the assistant producer for Georgia Southern’s student newscast, Your Newsroom. It reminds me a little of my Knight View days, but it’s much more organized, and people are much more willing to learn here. Obviously I’m incredibly grateful for my time with Knight View, but I’m so glad that chapter is over.
If you told 2023 Stella that she now wakes up at 6:30 AM every Tuesday to get into the office by 7:45 AM for Georgia Southern’s newscast, she would probably laugh in your face. My plan for my future has changed so many times, but as of right now, I’m finally content. I’m not always stressing about it anymore.
I love my job. I love the people I work with. I finally feel heard at work, and that means so much to me.
College continues to push me out of my comfort zone. That’s why I came here. I knew going to a school like Georgia Southern would make me uncomfortable and force me to try new things. Although my schedule has been packed with classes, homework, studying, hanging out with friends, and work, I love it.
I love my roommates, I love my friends, I love work, I love it here. Even if our football team sucks and our starting quarterback is pushing thirty years old (and should not be on a college team, even if he was good). I’ve been a UVA fan my whole life; I’m no stranger to rooting for the underdog.
At first, I wasn’t thrilled I would be coming here. Now, I couldn’t see myself anywhere else. I’m so excited for everything that’s in store for me here.
